Pongal is one of the well known festivals and also one of the major festivals celebrated in many parts of India. It is called as Makar Shankaranthi in some parts and it is is a festival for the farmers. The sweet pongal dish is made on the pongal festival and it is offered to the sun god. The preceding and the next day are also celebrated ion a grand manner dedicated as Bhogi and The Pongal for cows!
